In the week of 8-12 September 2019 around 500 participants representing a wide variety of scientific disciplines were focusing on mountains in Innsbruck (AT). The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention was present with an info booth.
Of particular interest for researchers and visitors of the conference were the Reports on the State of the Alps (RSAs) and the webGIS of the Alpine Convention. These publications and the web application served as an impulse for lively discussions on how to foster the sustainable development of the Alpine region. Scientists from different disciplines exchanged their views on how to connect science and policy methods. As well the exhibition “The Alps – A Journey through maps and pictures” of the Permanent Secretariat received a lot of interest.
The focus of the International Mountain Conference 2019 was on interdisciplinary mountain research worldwide and was brought into vibrant exchanges through workshop formats, keynotes and outdoor poster presentations. This all happened in a relaxed scope. The conference underlined the importance of working together: between disciplines, between science and practitioners, between mountains and lowlands as well as between mountain areas worldwide.
