The second edition of the ClimaHost for tourist accommodations in the Alpine region that demonstrate a particularly high level of commitment to climate protection and sustainability was wrapped up on the 26th of October 2022.
The prize is awarded to renovated and new buildings, as well as two special categories for “local hero” and “monument protection”. At the 2022 ceremony in Füssen, Germany, the winners were awarded by Christian Kühn, Parliamentary State Secretary in the German Federal Ministry for the Environment.
The award-winning accommodations were chosen based on their climate protection measures, such as the use of renewable energy sources for electricity and heat, cooling systems using groundwater and rainwater, as well as mobility offers that encourage guests to travel by train, and the use of regional organic products.
The ClimaHost award is a contribution to the implementation of the Alpine Convention, supporting climate change mitigation in the Alps while enabling more sustainable forms of tourism. The criteria of the award focus on key issues such as energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as broader socio-cultural areas such as sustainable procurement.

The ClimaHost competition is organised by adelphi in close cooperation with the Alpine Convention, and funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection within the framework of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI).
