The "Constructive Alps" architecture prize for sustainable renovation and construction in the Alps was awarded for the sixth time on 16 September 2022. From around 240 projects submitted from seven Alpine countries, the jury awarded prizes to eleven outstanding projects. "Constructive Alps 2022" is a contribution of Liechtenstein and Switzerland to the implementation of the Alpine Convention and its Climate Action Plan.
The architects of the award-winning buildings have taken special care of the natural resources and building traditions of the Alpine region. The buildings exemplify how architecture can combine aesthetics and sustainability.
The first prize goes to the Feld school building in Azmoos (CH), which was built in 2020, and replaces the smaller old school building. The wooden building is convincing because it is socially and ecologically sustainable, among other things by creating meeting spaces and covering its energy needs with photovoltaics on the roof.
The second prize went to two projects this year. The heating specialist ÖkoFEN France in Saint-Baldoph, near Chambéry, built its new company headquarters of solid wood from the load-bearing structure to the building envelope. The Ghiringhelli residential development in Bellinzona (CH) is also constructed of wood and combines ecological concerns with high-quality inner development and affordable living space.
The jury awarded the third prize to the renovated Falkenhütte in Hinterriss in the Austrian Karwendel mountains. The mountain hut blends unobtrusively into the high alpine landscape, as the existing building fabric was preserved and adapted. The Falkenhütte is also the public's favourite, chosen for the second time.
The jury also awarded recognition to the following projects:
- Ernas Haus student residence, Dornbirn (AT)
- Wohnbau Friedrich-Inhauser-Strasse (ZeCaRe II), Salzburg (AT)
- Küng office building, Alpnach (CH)
- Renovation and extension of multi-purpose building, Fläsch (CH)
- Temporary schoolroom Matador, Vaduz (FL)
- Alpine pasture Petosan, La Thuile (IT)
- House Šenk, Zgornje Jezersko (SI)
We warmly congratulate all the winners and recipients of recognition of the 2022 Constructive Alps competition!
