Domodossola Infopoint celebrates literature and youth

The Domodossola Infopoint of the Alpine Convention hosted the award ceremony for the sixth edition of its “Reading Mountains Infopoint Award” from 15-16 April 2024 in Crodo (VB), Italy. This edition was dedicated to quality of life in the Alps, one of the priority topics of the Slovenian Presidency and the Multi-Annual Work Programme of the Alpine Conference until 2030.

The “Reading Mountains Infopoint Award” promotes mountain literature among youth, with two categories in which pupils can apply: one for children aged 13-14 and one for the over 14s. This year, more than 200 entries were received from pupils from schools across the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola.

The award ceremony programme included guided tours in the Antigorio Valley for the young participants and reflections on the theme of mountains in times of climate change and through the Alpine Convention’s Reading Mountains Festival. A writing workshop was also organised for the pupils to raise awareness, in a creative way, of the importance of protecting the Alpine environment and biodiversity.

“This year’s Infopoint award once again shows the engagement and interest of the younger generations, with more than 200 submissions. Each of these imaginative texts is a testament to the creativity of our Alpine youth and your vital contributions to Alpine culture!” said Alenka Smerkolj, Secretary General of the Alpine Convention, during the award ceremony.
