In 2013, one of the first Infopoints of the Alpine Convention opened in the hamlet of Argentière in the municipality of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. The corresponding Memorandum of Understanding between the Community of Communes of the Valley of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc and the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention has now been renewed for the third time.
Over the next three years, the Infopoint will continue disseminating the messages of the Alpine Convention to inhabitants and visitors, taking part in joint initiatives such as the Reading Mountains Festival and the Young Academics Awards. The centenary of the first Winter Olympic Games held in Chamonix in 1924, the celebration of which has already started, will also bring opportunities to communicate Alpine-wide issues.
“Chamonix is active in several Alpine networks and has been a very reliable partner within the Alpine Convention family. The valley has much experience to share, for instance in the areas of climate change, tourism, and transport. I am very pleased that we continue our cooperation to strengthen ownership of the Alpine Convention in the Chamonix area”, said Secretary General Alenka Smerkolj.
