The Regional Development Agency (RRA) for Koroška became the third Alpine Convention Infopoint in Slovenia on 28 March. The RRA Koroška is the first Infopoint in the eastern part of the Slovenian Alps, located in a vibrant border region with neighbouring Austria.
The official inauguration ceremony began with greetings from Karmen Sonjak, the Director of the RRA Koroška, Anton Preksavec, Mayor of the Dravograd municipality where the agency is located, Alenka Smerkolj, Secretary General of the Alpine Convention, and Emil Ferjančič, Head of the Slovenian Presidency.
“It is a pleasure to welcome our third Alpine Convention Infopoint in Slovenia! The RRA Koroška contributes to the implementation of the Convention through its work on sustainable development, addressing issues such as environmental protection, biodiversity, the development of a green economy and sustainable mobility, and the sustainable development of towns and rural areas. I believe that we have a constructive cooperation ahead of us and I look forward to our joint projects,” said Secretary General Smerkolj in her opening speech.
The official ceremony was rounded off with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Alpine Convention and the Agency for three years. Following this, a round table discussion was held on the topic of remote and hybrid working as an opportunity for less accessible Alpine regions. The Alpine Convention perspective was presented by Zlatko Podgorski, the Slovenian member of the Transport Working Group which is also dealing with this topic in its current and previous mandates.
