On 4 June 1992 – the Alpine Convention was just half a year old – a group of hikers started the TransALPedes tour, a four-month walk across the Alps along which they met many local people committed to a sustainable development of our mountain region. 25 years on, on 3 June 2017, three of the participants are taking to the road again, leaving from Vienna on a similar route towards Nice, to analyse the changes which happened and the directions that the future of the Alps may take. The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention is supporting the “Whatsalp” project. Already in less than four weeks, the members of whatsalp will exchange with the journalists from our “We are Alps” tour on Water in the Alps, which will also start from Vienna but on 25 June.
