Thirty of the overall one hundred young people who participated in the initiative, traveling this summer through the Alps for one month with a reduced fare ticket, came to Bern to celebrate; the best pictures and travel reports were awarded with prizes.
The Swiss Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard, in her opening speech, recalled her role in launching the project and making it happen, underlined the importance of sustainable mobility and praised the role of engaged young people in the promotion of sustainable lifestyles. The Alpine Convention, as another main promotor of the initiative was represented at the event by the current President of the permanent Committee, Ewald Galle, and the Deputy Secretary General, Marianna Elmi, who had the possibility to exchange with the participants on their experiences with sustainable mobility and ways forward for improving it. CIPRA and representatives of the CIPRA Youth Council, which were a driving force in setting up and implementing the initiative, co-moderated the event.
