One voice to protect Mountains, Wildlife and People in times of global change

Mountain Biodiversity Day

  • Mountains around the world are home to rich biodiversity and cultural heritages.

  • Mountain regions are all unique yet share many of the same challenges.

  • Mountains are strongly exposed to climate change, land use change and other factors that threaten their biodiversity and ecosystem services.

On 13 January 2021, an interactive online event is being dedicated to discussing these challenges as well as best practices for responding to them.

Mountain Biodiversity Day will bring together experts and political representatives from mountain regions around the world to discuss effective tools and mechanisms to protect mountains and their sensitive biodiversity.

The event will be simultaneously translated into English, French, German, Italian and Slovenian.

Mountain Biodiversity Day is hosted by the outgoing French Presidency of the Alpine Convention in cooperation with the French Presidency of the EU-Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP).  The event is jointly coordinated by the Alpine Network of Protected Areas (ALPARC), the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention and the Secretariat of the Carpathian Convention as well as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
