Peer learning workshop “Climate action in Alpine towns – How to?”
Towns play a crucial role in climate change adaptation and mitigation. Local cooperation and coordination, across sectors and with the society, enable place-based and sustainable solutions supported by the whole community. Therefore, Switzerland launched the “Climate action in Alpine towns” pilot together with its partners in the framework of the Territorial Agenda 2030. The aim of the project is to empower towns and their citizens to develop creative ideas and to use quick “bottom-up” actions in order to foster the development of long-term climate strategies in spatial planning.
To inspire small and medium towns with good examples for climate action in urban planning and discussing solutions for frequent challenges, the Swiss Federal Office for Spatial Development ARE with the support of the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention and ESPON organised a workshop “Climate action in Alpine towns – How to?”. The workshop took place online on 18th June from 10:00 to 12:00.
The goal of this two-hour workshop was to tackle questions such as how to identify challenges, how to take first steps as well as how to communicate with stakeholders. Good examples of climate action in towns were also be highlighted, enabling peer-to-peer exchange.
The workshop was aimed at representatives from towns included in the TA2030 pilot, but also for officials interested in making their towns more climate-friendly, as well as other individuals from different professional backgrounds who are interested in the role of spatial planning in climate change mitigation and adaptation.
